Robert Thijs Kozma

Robert Thijs Kozma graduated Boston Univeristy, College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) in the summer of 2010. He was a pure and applied mathematics major at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Robert is a laboratory assistant and programmer at the Cognitive Neural Systems Technology Lab, Boston University. He is involved in projects funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) SyNAPSE grant and by the NSF Centers for Excellence in Learning in Education, Science and Technology (CELEST).

Robert's mathematical interests include nonlinear dynamical systems, partial differential equations, non-Euclidean geometries, and algebraic geometry. At the Dept. Mathematics and Statistics, Robert is involved in research under the supervision of Professor Robert L. Devaney in the field of complex nonlinear dynamical systems. Robert received the Robert E. Bruce Prize for Excellence in Mathematics, the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program Award, and is a CAS College Scholar for the 2009-2010 academic year. In summer 2009 he received the prestigeous Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) award to conduct research on self-dual elliptic curves and coding theory at Boston University.

Robert Thijs is a founding member of the BU Innoworks chapter. He believes science provides a bridge between cultures and serves as a universal languague of understanding for people with different backgrounds. He was born in The Netherlands and lived in Japan, New Zealand, California and Hungary prior to moving to Boston. He is fluent in three languages, English, Japanese, and Hungarian. During his high school years, he won a national Japanese language and culture competition. In his free time, he likes to play Japanese chess (shogi), tennis, and enjoys skiing.
