Abstract: This volume is a collection of eight papers that were presented at a 1981 Satellite Symposium of the Association for the Psychophysiological Study of Sleep. Although the articles represent a variety of apporaoches to the modeling of the circadian sleep-wake, activity-rest cycle, most of the analyses focus upon some portion of the experimental data from human subjects. All the models are built up from a formal construct such as a sine wave, a relaxation oscillator, or stochastic variables. Thus, solutions can reflect qualitative properties of the global expression of circadian rhythms, but they do not represent the mico-structures?
